| Born in Milan in 1931.He was editor in chief for magazines of Casabella, Modo and Domus.While working in the Studio Alchimia, he published a monograph (research paper) on a particular subject, designed furniture, installations and architecture, handled environmental designs, and painted.He collaborates with companies such as Alessi, Phillips, Cartier, Swatch, and Herme's, and is an artistic consultant for manufacturers providing direction for design and brand identities in the East.He is an honorary member of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design of Jerusalem, and was awarded the Compasso d' Oro (the Golden Compass Award) in 1979 and 1981. He holds the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Republic, and an honorary title from the Architectural League of New York.He was a professor at the Hochschule fur Angewandte Kunst in Vienna.Famous museums and private collectors possess his works of art.He opened Atelier Mendini with his brother, Francesco, in Milan in 1989.In Italy, he designed the Alessi plant in Omegna, the Olympic swimming pool in Trieste and the metro in Napoli, and restored the City Hall (a historical public building) in Napoli.He also designed a tower in Hiroshima, Japan, the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands, the town of Lugano in Switzerland, the building for Madsack in Hannover, Germany, a department store in Lorrach, and many other buildings in Europe and the United States. | | |
| Many modern cities of the world exhibit a tendency towards uniformity. This work is born of the concept of introducing a form exhibiting their characteristic 'beauty', while at the same time it is also a symbolic form, and I considered it in terms of whether or not it would be appropriate in any city and in any size and proportion. Furthermore, while changing the height, it can be repeatedly used as a number of ultra-high buildings, and also has an image of forming a skyline. This is a form loved throughout the world. The pale purple color is very delicate, and was selected for its ability to match the contrast between land and sky, and the color of the light in the day and evening. This is an answer on my current research theme of 'architecture as sculpture'

What do you thnik of today's environmental issue?
Thrust into danger by violence in a multitude of senses, and must be protected. One form of protection is with architecture and products.
What do you think of the function of the art gallery?
The art gallery is currently the most important piece of architecture - it collects 'quality', and provides a protective space.
Why did you become an architect?
I was very interested in 'image'. In comparison to other arts, architecture handles a larger number of images. Architecture is the skill of combining these images.Please send a message to the world's children. Love everyone. | |
